Exceptional Music Stars in Szczecin

We are heading towards the 7th Szczecin Music Fest. This year the Festival, which features the most prominent phenomena in world music and jazz, will be launched by the Norwegian artist  Nils Petter Molvaer.
All the stars of this year’s Szczecin Music Fest are presented below.

21.04 - Nils Petter MOLVAER
Apart from Jan Grabarek, Nils Petter Molvaer is the most renowned representative of Norwegian jazz. His first album – the famous Khmer – was recorded in 1997 by ECM, the legendary record company. The tremendous success of Khmer soon earned him a prominent place among the elite of jazz and electronic visionaries and contributors to the new music style – the nu-jazz.

20.05 - Mulatu ASTATKE
Mulatu Astatke (born in 1943) is the cornerstone of the Ethiopian musical stage. As an innovative multi-instrumentalist, composer and arranger, he has created and developed for many years the style which he himself refers to as ethio-jazz. Active since the 1960s, the artist cooperated in the 1970s with the legendary bandleader Duke Ellington. The Ethiopiques series -  compilations of top Ethiopian and Eritrean records - brought him real fame. In recent years his name reappeared with the greatest force due to the soundtrack of Broken Flowers, the movie directed by Jim Jarmusch.

02.06 - MARIZA
After three years, the greatest Fado-style star, the national treasure of Portugal, and the shining star of the world’s top concert halls, will be back in Szczecin. Her voice is considered magical, diamond-like and magnetic, and the phenomenon of her popularity is compared to that of the world-famous opera divas and pop/rock megastars. The audience at her concerts are electrified and stunned, being sent into a state of delight or even ecstasy!

As part of the Szczecin Music Fest in 2006, we hosted the Bajofondo Tangoclub. The extraordinary success of that concert made us keen to organise a concert by Gotan Project – the most famous electro-tango band. Gotan Project originated in 1999, when three musicians - Philippe Cohen Solal, Eduardo Makaroff and Christoph H. Müller - decided to create something completely fresh and peculiar.

Paco de Lucia (real name Francisco Sanchez Gomez) is the most renowned Flamenco guitarist and one of the most famous guitar players of all time. Having received his first guitar from his father when he was 5 years old, he has already played it for more than 55 years! His career has included dozens of albums (first in 1965), and hundreds of awards. He also used to be the pillar of the most famous guitar trio ever - Paco de Lucia - Al Di Meola - John McLaughlin.
