National Award for Landmark Lighting
Szczecin won recognition among the best-lighted cities in Poland in a recent competition.
Thanks to the lighting of the Castle Route and Long Bridge, the city earned top marks among those with more than 70,000 inhabitants. Szczecin, which was honored during the SWIATLO 2009 fair in Warsaw, shared the award with Torun.
The lighting for both landmarks was designed for the 2007 Tall Ships Races finale, which took place in the city. The Long Bridge configuration features 180 lamps and cost PLN570 thousand to implement in 2006. The Castle Route configuration, implemented in 2007, is lit by 450 bulbs, which are controlled by an astronomical clock that adjusts the lighting pattern to the rising and setting of the sun.
