University Choir on Tour

The choir of the Economics and Management Sciences Department at the University of Szczecin is visiting a half-dozen European cities as part of its pre-Christmas performance schedule.
Established three years ago by Edward Urbańczyk, the department’s dean, the choir’s members include students and the academic staff at the university. The group is lead by renown director Tadeusz Buczkowski and it repertoire includes popular Polish carols arranged by Marek Jasiński, a composer from Szczecin.
The two-week tour opens in Wismar and the choir will visit Hamburg, Antwerp, Brussels, Paris, Strasbourg and Bamberg before returning to Szczecin on 12 December. The choir will sing at the European parliament as part of the tour.
Despite its relative youth, the choir has achieved a consistent run of success under Dr. Buczkowski, whose contributions to the Polish music scene have earned a Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta and the "Gloria Artis" medal. The choir won a prize during the Polish Carol and Pastorale Festival in Będzin, a competition featuring some 2000 competitors from around the country. It also has recorded a pair of CDs.
