Mini Transat: Radek Kowalczyk finishes fifteenth in stage one
David Beaudart, sailing the yacht Flexirub 865, has won stage one of Mini Transat in the Proto category on the Douarnenez-Lanzarote route. He sailed 1250 sea miles on board of the 6.5-metre-long yacht in 6 days 19 hours and 4 minutes. He finished the race with a 9-hour advantage over runner-up Axel Trehin (Aleph Racing 716).
The Proto category featured 26 yachts. During the stage, 5 sailors withdrew from the competition. The serial-yachts category involved 46 watercraft; one participant turned back to port, and one dropped out in the course of the race. The first ten serial yachts have already reached the port.
Stage two of the Mini Transat regatta begins on 31 October. Due to the hurricane season the organisers decided to observe an over-month-long break in order to ensure the safety of the competitors. The sailors will sail from Lanzarote in the Canary Islands to Pointe-à-Pitre in Guadeloupe. This time, the distance is 2770 sea miles and is to be covered in over two weeks.
