Hołowczyc wins Lotto Baja Poland
For the second time in a row and the fifth time in his career Krzysztof Hołowczyc (MINI 4All Racing) has won LOTTO Baja Poland, the eighth round of this year's FIA World Cup for Cross Country Rallies. The LOTTO Rally Team driver took the rally lead during the first running of this nearly 150-kilometre-long stage on the military training ground in Drawsko Pomorskie.
Overall, Hołowczyc, together with his co-driver Łukasz Kurzeja, has won two out of five stages of the rally running in the Westpomeranian Region. Second place went to Nasser Al-Attiyah (MINI All4Racing), who extended his lead in the FIA World Cup. The podium was completed by the Dutch-Belgian pairing of Bernhard Ten Brinke and Tom Colsoul (Toyota Hilux Overdrive). After the rally, at the finishing line in Szczecin, Hołowczyc announced his retirement from cross-country rallying, after a decade-long career, stressing that he won’t be taking part in next year’s Dakar Rally, an event in which he took third place in January.
LOTTO Baja Poland was also the fifth round of the Polish Cross Country Championships, where the victory also went to Hołowczyc, ahead of Bernhard Ten Brinken and Martin Kaczmarski.
In the FIA Central European Zone Championships (CEZ) Krzyszof Hołowczyc claimed victory in the T1 group; in T2 the victory went to Klaudia Podkalicka, in T3 to Aron Domżała and in TH to Piotr Gadomski.
