Life in architecture – another success of the Philharmonic Hall

The Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic Hall in Szczecin is among the finalists in the LIFE IN ARCHITECTURE competition for the best projects in Poland in 2013-2014, organised under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Poland, Bronisław Komorowski.

On 19 February all finalists of the LIFE IN ARCHITECTURE competition for the best architectural project in 2013-2014 were revealed. On the other hand, the www.zyciewarchitekturze.pl website launched an online plebiscite for Poland’s Favourite.

As many as 47 buildings from the whole of Poland, selected from among 314 applications, will compete for this prestigious title.

The author and investor of the Poland’s Favourite project will receive a special commemorative plaque to place on the building. The plaque was designed by the famous Towarzystwo Projektowe studio – the designers of, among other things, The Municipal Information Systems in Warsaw and Bielsko-Biała.
The votes of Internet users can translate into the selection of various structures from various locations in Poland, proving that the best architecture is no longer the capital’s domain. The last (2012) Poland’s Favourite plebiscite saw the casting of a record-breaking 368,000 votes. Internet surfers battled till the very end, as the competition mobilised not only those directly interested in architecture, but also local communities. Ultimately the title went to Lublin Airport. The marina on Młyńska Island in Bydgoszcz was placed second.

The LIFE IN ARCHITECTURE competition enjoys high esteem in the architectural circles. It focuses on the best public buildings and areas, and is the most commented-on architectural event in Poland. The jury is composed of only the most renowned designers and representatives of creative circles in the country.
