Szczecin is an official holder of the European Road Safety Charter. Within the project, the city has committed, among other things, to construct a footbridge for pedestrians, to improve the markings of pedestrian crossings, to section off so-called bus lanes and to equip city buses with monitoring.

The European Road Safety Charter is one of the priority projects of the European Commission. This challenge involves actions for the purposes of road safety in the whole of Europe. A practical effect of these efforts is supposed to be a reduction in the road accident mortality rate by 50%, thereby saving 25 thousand people each year.
