Dive in the Days of the Sea

The biggest open-air event in Szczecin will start in two weeks time. It is worth looking closer at its schedule, because, apart from the annual convention of sailing ships and concerts, there will be a sea of other attractions.
During the Days of the Seaall you willing people will have the opportunity, totally free of charge, to dive into a specially-prepared swimming pool, which will have a real tropical reef with colourful fish and plants on its bottom. You will have also the chance to test new equipment from different diving companies under the supervision of instructors from the Dive Point Diving Centre and Dive Academy.
A magazine “Nurkowanie” (“Diving”) has also prepared an exhibition of historical diving equipment, and a show of underwater movies and pictures, as well as an archaeological workshop for children, during which children will be searching for treasures hidden in a sandpit. The participants will be accompanied by an archaeologist, who will explain how to use the professional tools and, what’s more, explain the names and functions of the exhibits found.
Skimboarding will be the next attraction – a water sport consisting of riding on a board on the shallow water surface or waves. Unlike surfing, skimboarding begins on the beach. The skimboarder glides across the thin wash of water remaining after the wave retreats, performing tricks derived from skateboarding. However, this sport may be practised also on shore, where we will need only sand, foil and water. We will see in two weeks time!
On Łasztownia the element of water meets the wind. The Polish Wind Energy Association will present a simulation of electric current generation and show why renewable sources of energy bring so many benefits.
Moreover, the West Pomeranian University of Technology will also give an interesting lesson. It will carry out experiments with water called “The Mysteries of Bodies of Water”, for instance the Heron’s fountain, freezing fruits with liquid nitrogen, and operating a Stirling machine. Are these names enigmatic? Everything will be explained in the workshop tent on Łasztownia.
