Dance on water

Dance on water

Cruises on sailing ships and Latin-American dances in one place? This and many other attractions await you on the Days of the Sea.

Zygmunt Choreń, a Polish naval architect, “father” of the whole flotilla of sailing ships, will be a guest on this year’s Days of the Sea. He designed, for instance, SV Royal Clipper, - currently the biggest sailing ship afloat - Fryderyk Chopin, Dar Młodzieży and five similar vessels for the CCCP. During his visit he will meet the students of the Faculty of Maritime Technology at the West Pomeranian University of Technology and on Saturday, 12 June, he will open the photographic exhibition on Łasztownia entitled “Polish Sailing Ships” devoted to his designs. Photographs may be viewed also on Sunday.

What’s more, the National Museum invites you to exhibitions on Wały Chrobrego (the Chrobry Embankment) connected with the theme of the sea. They will both be opened on Friday 11 June at 4.30 pm: “From the History of Polish Sailing on West Pomerania” and “ORP GROM –on the 70th Anniversary of its Sinking”.

Everyone for whom learning about the history of sailing ships is not enough is invited on cruises.

The schedule of cruises

The races of Dezets (centreboard yachts) are organised for those who will want to sail with more thrills. Everybody, regardless of age, may participate in the competition. A group of 8 people is sufficient, and on Saturday 12 June, between 12.00pm-6 pm come to Łasztownia. Information is provided by Marek Kamiński from the maritime Office of the City Office of Szczecin, telephone number 4 245 990.

However, the Days of the Sea is not only about sailing. This year one can also….dance on the berth. On Friday and Saturday (11 and 12 June), between 6pm and 10 pm, numerous attractions will wait for comers, including concerts, dance shows, the open-air edition of the oldest event of Latin music in the country, and contests with prizes as well as breaking the record of Szczecin for the number of pairs dancing the Rueda de Casino at the same time (on Friday at 9pm). Only simple figures will be danced to the composition “Represent Cuba” by Orishas so that people with even a basic ability to dance it can join in with breaking the record. No matter the age, sex or ability level. The greatest possible number of people near the stage on Łasztownia is of greatest importance. More details on www.kontrasty.szczecin.pl
