The Days of the Sea is the biggest open-air event in Szczecin. This year it will be held for the 63rd time. This time organisers have made an effort to make it slightly different from the previous events. Instead of the main concert, pop music stars will hold an open-air performance based on Frédéric Chopin’s music.
I kindly invite you to participate in the next, already the 63rd, Days of the Sea in Szczecin – said Piotr Krzystek, the Mayor of Szczecin, during the press conference. We have prepared numerous attractions. This year the Days of the Sea will be special as they will be connected with the celebrations of the 200th anniversary of the birth ofthe eminent Polish composer Frédéric Chopin.
As usual we will be admiring sailing ships and Oldtimers. About 60 sailing ships will call at the port. Surely “Fryderyk Chopin” will catch people’s eyes, not only because of its recent thorough overhaul. This sailing ship, docked in the central part of Wały Chrobrego, will form, along with two others - “Iskra” and “Pogoria” - the background for the open-air event “Chopin on Chopin”, which will be held on 12 July. The compositions of the most eminent Polish composer will be performed by renowned pianists Leszek Możdzer and Krzysztof Jabłoński. Music will be accompanied by ballet performances, parades, a light show and screening on big broadcast screens
The event is connected with the 200th Anniversary of the composer’s birth. It constitutes the part of the project promoting our country prepared by the Polish Tourist Organisation. From Szczecin, “Fryderyk Chopin” will set off on a three-month cruise. During this period it will call at a dozen or so European ports. In each of them an event promoting Poland will be held. The Days of the Sea will also include exhibitions, among others a photographic exhibition of sailing ships designed by the engineer Zygmunt Choreń, numerous concerts, including “Baltic Suite” performed by the Baltic Neopolis Orkiestra, a gig by the band “Hey”, “Poland meets Ireland” performed by, among others, “Dervish” and “North Cregg” from Ireland, and a traditional concert “...for those, who did not come back from the sea...”. One can also admire the parade of Oldtimers and yachts on the Oder, as well as musical presentations “Sail Szczecin that is let’s sail to Szczecin” and, like every year, a fireworks display. Apart from these numerous attractions, one can also, inter alia, visit sailing ships, warships and Oldtimers, free-of-charge cruises for the young connected with maritime classes, ecological, boat- and shipbuilding workshops, and learning how to make sailing knots.
The City is grateful to the main partner of this year’s Days of the Sea – Sail Szczecin 2010 - the local brewery Bosman -, as well as the following partners - the Polish Tourist Organisation, Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority S.A. (joint-stock company), and the Polsteam Group
