Students of Architecture from Szczecin and Rotterdam will together prepare spatial development of seaside areas within Glinki-Kraśnica district in Szczecin.
6th - year students of the Institute of Architecture and Spatial Development of the West Pomeranian University of Technology - students of Architecture and Urban Planning (10 people) - and 2nd - year students of the Instituut voor Bouw en Bedrijfskunde Hogeschool Rotterdam (10 people) - will participate in a 4-day workshop (10-14 May). The students will be working in 4-person groups (2 people from the West Pomeranian University of Technology and 2 people from Hogeschool Rotterdam in each group). The workshops will be monitored by university teachers: 3 people from the Institute of Architecture and Spatial Development of the West Pomeranian University of Technology and 1 person from the Hogeschool Rotterdam.
The aim of the workshop is to share experiences related to the development of seaside areas of port towns and cities, advanced in the spatial-functional transformation (Rotterdam) and to attempt to implement the new brand of Szczecin, Floating Garden, in a selected part of the city. The workshop, which will develop the students’ knowledge, will also contribute to the promotion of Szczecin and its evaluation by other countries of Europe.
The workshop was inspired by the international planning workshop (in May 2009) devoted to the perspectives of the metropolitan Area of Szczecin with the Urban Planning Advisory Team (UPAT) of the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP). The Urban Planning Advisory Team of ISOCARP was represented by senior planners from all over the world (Mexico, Argentine, the United States, Italy, Germany, and Serbia), supported by young planners and students from Szczecin.
All works prepared within the workshop will be displayed in the hall of the Institute of Architecture and Spatial Development building at ul. Żołnierska 50 in Szczecin.
