Sea Days 2009 Promises a Festival of Family Fun
Sea Days Festival (12-14 June 2009)
The reenactment of an historic sea battle, parades of ships under sail and a philharmonic concert are among the highlights of the annual celebration of Szczecin’s maritime culture and heritage.
Ships representing navies from Sweden and Brandenburg will stage the 17th Century battle, with leading Polish actors enlisted to command both fleets, as the 2009 edition sees Sea Days spread out from its traditional site on the Waly Chrobrego embankment of the Odra River. Lasztownia island, which lies to the east of Waly Chrobrego in the city center, will host the Sea Days concert tent and amusement park.
As in years past, the Sea Days festival will encompass the Old-Timers rally, in which around 40 antique vessels will be paraded along the river. Attendees will have the opportunity to see vessels such as the Dar Młodzieży, Mira, Zawisza Czarn, Tolkien and Baltic Beauty all under sail, as well as to tour working Polish navy ships and those in the service of the National Maritime University, which is headquartered on Waly Chrobrego.
Other attractions include free cruises for youngsters, workshops with naval and ecological themes, market and food stalls, fireworks displays and a series of photographic exhibitions.
