Szczecin’s Yachts First!
“Dar Szczecina” and “Endorfina” were first to cross the finish line in this year’s Tall Ships Races 2010, in Hartlepool, England.
The “Dar Szczecina” crew ranked first in class C (vessels not carrying spinnaker-like sails), while “Endorfina” won the class D competition (vessels carrying spinnaker-like sails). “Dar Szczecina” repeated its first place from the previous stage - (Antwerp to Aalborg).
This year’s feast of sailors – The Tall Ships Races 2010 - started on 10 July. Four port towns hosted the regatta this time: in Belgium, Denmark, Norway, and Great Britain:
- Antwerp, 10 - 13 July 2010,
- Aalborg: 21 - 24 July 2010,
- Kristiansand: 29 July – 1 August 2010,
- Hartlepool: 7 – 10 August 2010.
Szczecin’s youth had a special role to play. Each port town invited a promotional stand attended by members of Szczecin’s representation. You could get information about the city, learn to juggle, or play percussion. 4,000 juggling balls with the logo of The Tall Ships Races 2013 Finals in Szczecin were made for guests.
The Tall Ships Races 2010 regatta race had two stages:
- From Antwerp to Aalborg (13 – 20 July 2010),
- From Kristiansand to Hartlepool (1 – 7 August 2010).
The section from Aalborg to Kristiansand featured a friendly stage, during which young sailors could change vessels.
Szczecin’s representation sailed on three vessels - DAR SZCZECINA, ZRYW and the POGORIA sailing ship.
The Tall Ships Races was organised by Sail Training International http://www.sailtraininginternational.org,
and for the coming three years Szczecin City will be the partner of this event www.szczecin.eu.
