The Tall Ships Races 2010 Begin

Antwerp is the first harbour hosting this year's Tall Ships Races. All Szczecin's vessels are in the Belgian port, while the presentation of our town is very successful among the visitors.

The promotional stall of Szczecin offers not only information about the town (brochures, guides, leaflets), but also the possibility to learn how to juggle or play percussion. Note that juggling was Szczecin’s identification during the regatta of 2009. These skills, and the style of presentation during the team parade, were noted and awarded in Turek and Klaipėda. Visitors to Szczecin’s stall in Antwerp are given, among other things, juggling balls with the logo of The Tall Ships Races 2013 regatta final, which is going to take place in Szczecin.

This year Szczecin’s representation in Antwerp is also teaching those willing to learn how to play percussion. A percussion band, Sambal, accompanied Szczecin’s representation in the traditional team parade of all the vessels participating in The Tall Ships Races 2010.

Also staying in Antwerp are representatives of Szczecin’s authorities, including Mayor Piotr Krzystek, who, during his visits to the vessels staying in the Antwerp port, invites everyone to The Tall Ships Races 2013 in Szczecin.

The regatta began on 13 July. The first stage is from Antwerp to Aalborg, while the second stage is from Kristiansand to Hartlepool. Szczecin’s team will be sailing three units-yachts - DAR SZCZECINA, ZRYW, and POGORIA, a sailboat. The POGORIA team is going to be made up of young citizens of Szczecin, WestPomeranian Voivodeship, and Poznań.

After Antwerp, three other ports are going to host this year’s regatta - Aalborg (Denmark) 21 – 24 July 2010, Kristiansand (Norway) 29 July – 1 August 2010, and Hartlepool (Great Britain) 7 – 10 August 2010.
