Düsseldorf Connection From Spring
Low-cost Irish airline Ryan Air will begin twice-weekly service to the German city in 2010, adding another route option for travelers using Szczecin Goleniów Airport.
The new flights, which commence on 31 March, were announced locally at a press conference attended by city and airport authority officials. The carrier already operates flights between Goleniów and London and Dublin.
At the conference, Szczecin Mayor Piotr Krzystek lauded the launch of the service as another feather in the airport’s cap, where investment of PLN7.5 million by the city from 2007-2009 has aided the construction of a second terminal, among other improvements. The city is a shareholder in the regional facility and will contribute PLN4.5 million in 2010, the mayor noted. Airport authority Chairman Maciej Jarmusz told reporters that in addition to upgrading airport infrastructure, investment capital will be used for the replacement of equipment to maintain security.
