Economic Zone gets Green Light

Areas in Trebusz and Duników and at Lubczyńskiej-Kniewskiej Street may be included in a special economic zone, according to a decision by the Industrial Development Agency.

The agency, an arm of the State Treasury responsible for stewarding assets subject to privatisation, said they areas may be included as sub-zones of the Special Economic Zone EURO-PARK MIELEC. Among the list of requirements is a City Council resolution on of the inclusion of the land in the Special Economic Zone, which is expected at an extraordinary session of the council in December.

The Mayor Piotr Krzystek said the decision reflects the multi-party support for the "Programme for Szczecin", a strategy aimed on coordinating economic development and investment in the area of the New Szczecin Shipyard, whose assets the agency is putting out to tender.

He noted that members of the West-Pomeranian Parliament, with special input of the members of Law and Justice Party (Prawo i Sprawiedliwość) and Longin Komołowski, were directly responsible for getting the 80-hectare parcel included in the sub-zone.

The shipyard area may also be covered by the zone. This is to be confirmed after the tender procedure for the disposal of assets of New Szczecin Shipyard.
