The construction of the next section of the ring road has commenced

The 5th section of the City Centre Ring Road will be 1200 metres long. The official opening of the investment has taken place today.

The new street will connect ul. Krasińskiego with ul. Arkońska. The artery will include two lanes in each direction. Drivers will be able to travel along there in 26 months. This is the period in which the contractor, the Energopol Company, selected by the tendering procedure, has to implement the task. It will receive about PLN 66 million for performing the work. Over 70% of the investment is financed by the funds of the Regional Operational Programme of the Westpomeranian Voivodeship 2007-2013.

The construction of the 5th stage of the ring road will considerably improve traffic flow and will significantly shorten travel time for drivers coming from the northern districts in the direction of al. Wojska Polskiego. “We are building roads so that driving in Szczecin is easier” – stressed the Mayor of Szczecin Piotr Krzystek – “so that the city is safer and so that we can move around the city in comfortable conditions.”

To ensure the safety of children attending schools located near the ring road in the area of ul. Łabędzia, an underpass will be constructed. Its construction starts the implementation of the investment.

The following intersections along the route of the 5th section of the City Centre Ring Road will be redeveloped:

  • - the intersection with ul. Chopina and a section of ul. Chopina, with a length of 470 metres;
  • - the intersection with ul. Niny Rydzewskiej;
  • - the intersection with ul. Arkońska and Niemierzyńska and a section of these streets with a length of 530 metres.
  • - a flyover along the route of ul. Arkońska / Niemierzyńska, and tram traction will be also redeveloped.

Within the investment, underground infrastructure will be redeveloped. Pedestrians will have new pavements, and cyclists new bicycle paths, at their disposal.
