A State-of-the-art Swimming Pool in Szczecin

Szczecin will soon boast one of the most modern sports and leisure complexes in Europe. The construction of the building belonging to The Sport and Education Centre at ul. Rydla 49 is just finishing. It is planned to open on the first day of school in the 2010/2011 school year.
From September, children and young people will have at their disposal a 25-metre-long pool, with the state-of-the art innovations of a movable floor and a platform. The special floor has been installed in the middle of the pool’s basin, the depth of which is 2 metres 20 centimetres. It can be raised or lowered to the desired depth with the help of steel ropes. The construction floats on the water. The platform, which can also be raised to the desired height, separates the deep section from the shallow section.
This solution will facilitate teaching little children to swim, and offering activities such as water aerobics. The movable floor is the only one in Poland. Similar floors can be seen in England, the Netherlands, and Australia.
The swimming pool has also been adapted for disabled people, as the corner of the basin has a special lift which makes it possible for the disabled to enter the pool using special bands. There is also a Jacuzzi in the main pool hall, and the adjoining rooms are to feature another whirlpool bathtub, a sauna, and a cryogenic chamber.
The pupils of the Sport and Education Centre will also have the use of a modern sports hall that will feature basketball, volleyball, handball, and tennis courts. The floor below will house a gym with facilities for the rehabilitation of disabled people. The gym will be reached by a specially-adapted lift.
The structure is currently being fitted with equipment. The cost of the investment is over PLN 12 million. KWADRA Waldemara Kapelli, a Szczecin construction-services company, is the general contractor.
