Mayor of Szczecin Piotr Krzystek has signed in the Ministry of Regional Development a contract on the co-financing of the modernisation of Struga Street Szczecin is going to get PLN 79 million.

The money at issue comes from the Infrastructure and the Environment Operational Programme within the project “The modernisation of the road access to the Szczecin Port.” The estimated total cost of the scheme amounts to approx. PLN 200 million.

The signing of the contract means that it will soon be possible to commence procedures connected with the selection of the contract engineer and the contractor for the works. The works are to be commenced in the 4^th quarter of this year.

Struga Street requires reconstruction, in respect of the necessity to improve both the quality of the road surface as well as smoothness and safety of road-traffic.

The importance of A. Struga Street for road-traffic safety cannot be overestimated: it is loaded both with domestic and international transit traffic, and local traffic, connected with the large housing developments and commercial facilities adjoining the street. The existing one-level junctions and traffic lights are failing to solve the transport problems in a satisfactory way. The road surface requires repair.

When rebuilt, the street will be entirely changed. Part of it will be routed through an excavation, which will make it possible to construct overpasses at the level of Jasna and Wiosenna – Łubinowa Streets (local traffic above transit traffic). The reconstruction will cover the section from Jasna Street to the junction with Pomorska Street. The junction with the road leading in the direction of Dąbia will be two-level. There will be a roundabout at the lower level, which will facilitate access in the direction of Dąbia. On the top level there will be flyovers, which will relieve the traffic of vehicles going into and out of the city.

So far the first stage of the modernisation of Struga Street in the section from the junction with Gryfińska Street to the junction with Jasna Street has been carried out. The modernisation has been co-financed by PHARE.
